Freya Hite’s work spans the areas of portraiture, the figure, landscape and skyscape, as well as abstraction and surrealism.  Freya believes experimentation to be important for growth, and continually incorporates new techniques and new subjects.  Color is often the central focus in her paintings, not only vibrant color, but soft and beautiful grays as counterpoint.

Ms. Hite’s landscapes are impressionistic and frequently painted on location.  She is well versed in portraiture and figure painting after many years of study and commission work.  Sky-scapes include large, abstracted clouds, and space scenes (cosmic views inspired by images generated from the Hubble telescope).

Freya’s ‘mindscapes’ can be non-objective, or have recognizable elements whose interrelationships, combined with areas of abstraction, produce a surreal or dreamlike effect.  These paintings evoke various thoughts and feelings, and free the viewer to imagine anything possible in an otherworld.

Ms. Hite is an award-winning artist whose work is widely collected.  In 1979-1980, Freya attended the Rocky Mountain School of Art.  She has also studied at the Art Students League of Denver, and with artists in western Colorado.  Freya’s paintings are currently represented by OFF THE WALL 2 Gallery and by Frameworks Gallery in Grand Junction.
